Thhhbbbbbbbbtttt on Uhaul

Uhaul gets a big thumbs DOWN from me...that's me sticking out my tongue at them up there in the title in case you couldn't tell... :(  It's a no go on the trailer with them...

They offered one of their trucks to drive and then pull my vehicle, but the cost of the truck and the gas would NOT be worth it, even according to the Uhaul rep making the offer, so now I'm doing something else I never imagined I'd do...shopping for an enclosed trailer...

I've found a couple of possibilities on Craigslist, but apparently enclosed trailers are popular and sell quickly...who knew?  So I'm keeping my eyes peeled.  I'll get to Alaska one way or another...and with or without my possessions. :)

Why on earth would they "offer" you a truck...was it with a significant discount? I'm sure you could have figured out that they have trucks without their "offer." I'll rent a Hertz when I move here. Just for you. ;)

They did offer a discount but it still was going to be a lot more $$. Thanks for the support :) go Hertz!!

I think buying a trailer might work out better in the end, then I can sell it when I'm done with it...

Man :( ! Your comment right there though is a good way to look at it though- U-Haul may seem to have burnt you now, but if you are able to use a purchased trailer and then resell it, you will totally have the last laugh!!! Like U-Haul cares, but still it would make you feel good ;)

I got to see this journey through, so I'm happy to be your newest follower!

If you get a good deal on a trailer, I don't think you'll have any problem selling it up here if you don't want it any more. And you'll probably get what you paid for it, if not more.

We bought a travel trailer before we made the move to AK. We bought it brand new in FL for $17,000. When we got here, we saw the SAME trailer on a lot for $25,000! I know quite a few folks who bought trailers and campers, etc in the Lower 48 and were able to sell them up here. For as many people moving UP to AK, there are many who are moving out.

Good luck!

I think every move we've done here - even my daughter moving back to CO from Seattle - have been with U-Haul. It sucks that it's so expensive. Luckily for us my son now has a truck. Sounds like buying a trailer is definitely the way to go. If they go that fast you should have no trouble getting rid of it in Alaska if you want to. Good luck. I look forward to your whole adventure.
